Kruse Elementary, the oldest school in Pasadena, was established in 1897 on LaPorte Road. Charles Munger, founder of Pasadena, taught the school’s 27 students for $30 a month. His rough homemade desk still sits in the office. By 1905, the school moved to its present site where more spacious grounds were available. Five years later, the brick building was built and further renovations took place in 1915. Joe Hall, Mae Smythe, and Leta Cronish served as principals during those early years.  A Texas Historical marker remains on-site on Shaver Street.

In 1990, students benefited from additions to the building. The school was rearranged to face South Main with new classrooms and major renovations to the existing building. Kruse is proud of its facilities and the generations of students it has served with a commitment to excellence in education.

The mission of Kruse Elementary is to produce responsible citizens and broaden their experiences through a measurable curriculum that promotes success, academic achievement, and lifelong learning.

Rosie Prusz, principal of Kruse, was selected as the Houston Chapter Texas Society of CPA's Outstanding Principal Recipient for 2000-2001. Ms. Prusz was surprised with the award during a pretend "fire drill." We think she is doing a stupendous job at Kruse.
