Parents and Students: The first six weeks were certainly challenging because of adjustments the students had to make while transitioning into my classroom and into "The Jackson Way" of doing things. My students did a great job of shifting from an Elementary School way of thinking to an Intermediate School way of thinking. Now it is time to take the next step. Effective immediately, during the second six weeks, the following are guidelines on how homework needs to be done in order to get full credit in my classes:

  1. First and Last Name must appear on all pages that have work done on them (no more First Name and Last Initial). -5 for each missing name

  2. The date that the work is due must appear on all pages that have work done on them. -5 for each missing date

  3. The class period must appear on all pages that have work done on them. -5 for each missing class period

  4. All penmanship must be done neatly so the answers can be easily read (a 5 must not look like an S and a 6 must not look like a 0). No credit for confusing or illegible answers

  5. All final answers must be circled or boxed. No credit for un-circled or un-boxed answers

  6. All work must be shown and all answers must be checked for correctness (see below). No credit for "un-worked" problems and no credit for unchecked answers

  7. All word problems must be completed on each page as their own individual grade. Half of the credit for the word problem will come from showing the thought process of how the answer was determined and justified. Half of the credit will come from having the correct answer. Failure to show any work will result in no credit at all - even if the answer is correct. So, if an assignment is sent home to do the odd numbered math problems on a worksheet, then the odd numbered math problems receive one grade, and all of the word problems on the page (odd and even must all be done) will receive a second grade.

  8. Homework turned in late has been a problem. Any late work will get an automatic deduction of at least 10 points.
