Book Care Rules

Here in our library we have some helpers to remind us of how to care for books.

The Shelf Elf and Mr. Wiggle the friendly bookworm has these tips for you:

  1. Make sure your hands are clean when reading a library book.

  2. Draw pictures on your own paper, not your library book pages.

  3. Keep crayons, markers, scissors, pencils, pens, and glue away from your library books.

  4. Eat your snacks at the dinner table, not while reading your library books. Sticky foods and drinks can ruin the book's pages.

  5. Use a bookmark to mark where you left off instead of folding down the corner of the page.

  6. If you tear a page, please bring the book to the librarian to repair it.

  7. Keep your library books safe by putting them away in your backpack, away from little brothers and sisters and your pets.

  8. Remember that water is a book's worst enemy, so don't leave your books outside in the rain or spill water on your library books. Soak up the water and let your book dry by keeping it open until the water is all gone. Turn the pages daily to keep them from sticking together, then bring it to the librarian.
