The mission of Communities In Schools is to help young people of Texas stay in school, successfully learn and prepare for life by coordinating the connection of needed community resources in the school setting. Communities In Schools and I believe that kids come first and that keeping them in school is more than a school problem -- it's a community problem! At CIS, we believe that every child needs and deserves:

A personal one-on-one relationship with a caring adult,
A safe place to learn and grow,
A healthy start and health future,
A marketable skill to use upon graduation, and
A chance to give back to peers and the community

CIS connects school with the resources students need most at the campus during school hours. At Gardens Elementary CIS children will benefit from:

Academic Enhancements - tutoring, TAKS preparation, homework groups

Supportive Guidance - self-esteem, social skills, crisis intervention, mentoring

Enrichment Activities - sports groups, breakfast club group, arts and crafts, etiquette groups

Parental and Family Involvement - parents workshops, home visits, parent volunteers, parental conference

Health and Human Services - basic needs, referrals, health fairs and screening, eye glasses vouchers, drug and alcohol prevention and intervention

Pre-employment Activities - career awareness fairs and development

Social Services - agency referrals, school supplies, uniforms, and shoe vouchers .
