CCELERATED
READING
Accelerated Reader is a popular reading software in schools. It is easy to use. The student selects and reads a book. Then, the student sits down at a computer and takes an A.R. quiz. A.R. computes the student's score, adds the results into the A.R. database, and generates a TOPS reports.
In order to encourage students to keep up with their A.R. points and the books they have read, we reward them every two weeks. Students are rewarded according to an incentive chart.

Our first graders that become Independent Readers are rewarded with an Independent Reader Walk, a parade around the school, complete with photographers, parents, and fanfare as all the classrooms turn out to applaud their success. They receive an A.R. t-shirt, a balloon, and a certificate, but most of all the recognition of their hard work and their success.
Our most popular incentive is our May A.R. Carnival. All students attend, and they spend their A.R. points in order to participate in the booths and activities. The more points accumulated, the more games they can play. Many also opt to share with their friends!
