CARIBBEAN SOCA |
|
The second grade presented a program called Caribbean SOCA, which is short for Soul Calypso. The children sang various folksongs from the Caribbean islands, spotlighting the influences from many cultures. "Caribbean ABC's" showing strong black rhythms and styles, "Tinga Layo" and "Biddy Biddy" as singing games for children, and "Four White Horses", "Day-Oh", and "One Two Three" as traditional work songs. "Hosanna, Me Build a House" is a well-known story song. We were given the privilege of hearing a steel drum band, STEEL VIBRATIONS, both before and during the program. |
