The Pasadena Independent School District expands beyond the
city limits of Pasadena, Texas, covering all of the City of South Houston,
portions of southeast Houston and stretching into Harris County. Over 200,000
people live within the district boundaries. Areas of growth in the community
include new subdivisions on the southeast and southwest corners of the district.
The Pasadena Independent School District boasts a vibrant, steadily
growing, diverse student population, a broad-based and varied academic program, rising
test scores and an impressive array of technology and innovative programs. Elementary
students have access to three to six computers in every classroom. Secondary schools
combine classroom computers with extensive computer labs.
Staff
Pasadena ISD employs approximately 6,400 staff members, including more than 3,100 teachers, specialists, librarians, counselors, nurses and campus administrators. There are another 2,700 support personal dedicated to providing continuous and effective services to the campuses and parents of the community in an effort to provide a quality education program for all students.
Each year, several Pasadena ISD teachers earn state or national recognition for outstanding achievement.
The teaching staff of Pasadena schools demonstrates a sincere interest in the success of every student. One quarter of them hold advanced degrees and have an average of 12 years teaching experience. Our teachers attended. During the 2004-2005 school year, Pasadena ISD offered more than 250 staff development workshops for its teachers, which addressed a variety of different classroom strategies and topics.
Students
Pasadena ISD educates more than 46,000 students on 54 campuses. There are five high schools (grades 9-12), 10 intermediate schools (grades 6-8) and 33 elementary schools (Pre-K-5) and two Fifth Grade Centers. The district also supports three alternative programs for high school students, one program for both intermediate and elementary students, a program for highly at-risk intermediate and high school students and a career and technology center. Diversity among its student body and its programs is among Pasadena ISDs strongest assets. Students in Pasadena are 70 percent Hispanic, 20 percent White, six percent African American, three percent Asian. Many multicultural programs exist to broaden the educational horizons of its student population. More than half of Pasadena ISD students come from economically disadvantaged situations and 20 percent are Limited English Proficient (LEP).
Finances
The Board of Trustees and the administration of the Pasadena Independent School District builds a fiscally conservative budget each year that balances the academic needs with sensitivity to the local taxpayer.
