A primary component of the curriculum is the development of positive self-esteem. Every course addresses this affective component.

The purpose of the Challenger School is to create a motivational school of choice with a flexible, caring, innovative environment. Our high expectations for individual, social and academic success are based on mutual respect and trust, while fostering self-esteem and pride. We strive for the optimum communication between community and school.

At Challenger, students who have not had academic success in the past have opportunities for academic and social growth. We have student centered instruction and a flexible educational setting that allow for social development in a non-traditional environment.

The staff at Challenger is highly trained and qualified to provide personalized instruction to students who are at risk of being unsuccessful in school. Additionally, the staff gives daily encouragement and support and they assist students in the development of problem-solving skills.

Our campus provides personalized instruction to fifth and sixth grade students who have a need for a positive educational environment free of grade level placement. The main objective is to provide an accelerated program that will give the student an opportunity to get back on grade level.

Students interested in enrolling at Challenger are selected based on the following criteria:

  • has attendance/truancy problems
  • has been retained once in elementary school; has not experienced success
  • is older than peers
  • demonstrates low self-esteem
  • has not mastered TAKS
  • requires a different instructional methodology
  • parent/student agreement; school of choice

As a school of choice, parents may or may not choose to allow their children to enroll. In addition, the staff of Challenger may or may not choose to accept a student who may meet the requirements.

In an effort to assure the success of your child we feel it is extremely important to maintain an environment where learning and teaching will occur. It is our belief that a highly structured setting allows our teachers to teach and our students to learn. Also to be included in the discipline management plan is an incentive program that will reward excellence in academics and behavior.
