Students honored for numerous
achievements
It was a night of special recognitions at the
regular meeting of the Pasadena ISD Board of Trustees.Board members
and Superintendent Kirk Lewis presented certificates to more than 30
students at the meeting for a variety of honors.
Students who excelled in the Duke University
Talent Identification Program, were honored by the board. As part of
the Duke program, students took the Scholastic Aptitude Test and
received state recognition by scoring 500 or better on the test.
Students from the following schools who received state recognition
were:

THOMPSON INTERMEDIATE - Kaitlyn Wallis
In addition, members of the seventh grade
academic pentathlon team from Southmore Intermediate received honors
from the Board. For the first time the school’s history, the seventh
grade team advanced to the regional competition. The team made the
most of their opportunity as they finished second place overall at
the event, while several of the team members earned individual
medals. The Southmore students also took second place in the Super
Quiz portion of the competition.
Winners in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
art contests were honored during the meeting and the Board received
the HLS&R’s “Super Show Award” for the fourth consecutive year.
Pay increases
approved
The Pasadena ISD Board of Trustees approved a
pay increase for all employees for the 2007-2008 school year at its
regular May meeting. With the increase, the salary for a beginning
teacher in the district increases to $40,789. The raise is based on
3-percent of the midpoint for each pay grade.

New principals
named
The Board approved the appointments of two new
principals for Moore and Parks elementary schools.
Jill Lacamu is the new principal at Moore and
Frances Burley will assume the lead role at Parks Elementary. Lacamu
has served as assistant principal at Frazier Elementary for the past
three years. Burley comes from a district in Illinois, where she
also served as an elementary principal.
In other personnel news, Thompson Intermediate
principal Greg Jones was appointed as the new Director of Grants and
Technical Projects. Jones served as principal at Thompson since
1996. He will begin work in his new position at the beginning of
August. Jones will work with Susan Bauer, executive director of
grants and special projects, in pursuing grant funding opportunities
that will benefit instruction. He will also assist with special
district-wide data projects and assist technical assistant teams
with collection of data for submission of required reports to the
Texas Education Agency.
