April 2008, Regular Meeting
Second phase of mentoring
grant ready to launch
The Pasadena ISD Board of Trustees approved the
acceptance of the second phase of the Beginning Teacher Induction
and Mentoring Program grant from the Texas Education Agency.
The grant will allow 243 experienced dedicated teachers in mentoring
206 alternative certification and new-university certified
teachers.
With the board’s
action, it will help Pasadena ISD in securing, training, and
developing excellent teachers. Through mentoring, new teachers and
teachers who are certified through alternative programs, will
improve their teaching skills through one-on-one peer guidance and
support. Mentors will work closely with the new teachers to support
them during their first two years of instruction, guiding them
through classroom management, lesson plan development, technology
integration, and assuring all instruction is aligned with and
supports the TEKS and TAKS.
All 36 elementary
schools, Lomax, Milstead and Schneider Middle Schools, Bondy
Intermediate, Challenger School, Tegeler Career Center, and the
Guidance Center will be supported through this grant.
In other
business, the Board:
Approved the
Summer Enrichment programs for Bilingual/ESL and Migrant students
Approved revisions
to the District Improvement Plan
Approved a request
for Career and Technical Education Students to participate in
national competitions
