Coursework by Certification Area

Coursework is based on the teaching certificate that matches the teaching position. For this reason, we ask that you don't take the courses until you are hired. Bilingual candidates are an exception to this, because of the critical need for bilingual teachers.

BILINGUAL INTERNS

9 Semester Hours from University- Required
 Additional 3 Semester Hours from University- Optional
One 45 Hour Seminar from District- Required

Bilingual Education interns will take a pre-service seminar in their area of certification. This 45 hour class is presented by the district and does not count towards university credit and will not appear on a transcript. For this reason, Instructional Strategies for the Content Area in ESL is an elective course.

SPECIAL EDUCATION INTERNS & ELEMENTARY INTERNS

9 Semester Hours from University- Required
Additional 3 Semester Hours from University- Optional
One 45 Hour Seminar from District- Required

Special Education interns will take a pre-service seminar in their area of certification. This 45 hour class is presented by the district and does not count towards university credit and will not appear on a transcript. For this reason, Classroom Management is an elective course.

Secondary Education interns may take a pre-service seminar in literacy. This 45 hour class is presented by the district and does not count towards university credit and will not appear on a transcript. If interns choose the seminar option, Content Area Reading is an elective course.
