Program Entry Pre-Requisites

General Pre-Requisites

 

  • Hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Have an overall 2.5 GPA or better, based on a 4.0 system for all semester hours attempted or 2.7 on the last 60 hours attempted.

  • GPA of 2.5 or better in designated hours for specific certification area.

  • Competency in written and spoken English for all certifications.  

  • Competency in written and spoken Spanish for Bilingual teachers

 

Content Area Pre-Requisites

 

There is a minimum coursework are requirement for the subject that you would like to teach. The requirements are based on the federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) guidelines.

  • 24 Hours in Content Area to be taught or Passing Scores on the TExES Certification Exam before entering the classroom. 

Permission for necessary examinations will be provided after applicant has met the General Pre-Requisites. Training is required.

  • Program requirements for composite certifications- These are certifications that allow a person to teach multiple subjects. They include English/Language Arts and Reading, Science for high school, and Social Studies.

           36 Hours at the Intermediate School Level

           48 Hours at the High School Level.
