Program Entry Pre-Requisites

General Pre-Requisites

  • Hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Have an overall 2.5 GPA or better, based on a 4.0 system for all semester hours attempted or 2.7 on the last 60 hours attempted.

  • GPA of 2.5 or better in designated hours for specific certification area.

  • Competency in written and spoken English for all certifications.  

  • Competency in written and spoken Spanish for Bilingual teachers

 

Content Area Pre-Requisites

These are required for the subject that you would like to teach. They are based on the federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) guidelines.

  • 24 Hours in Content Area to be taught or Passing Scores on the TExES Certification Exam before entering the classroom. 
  • A barcode will be necessary in order to take this examination and will be provided after applicant has met the General Pre-Requisites. Training is required.
  • Composite certifications- These are certifications that allow a person to teach multiple subjects. They include English/Language Arts and Reading, Science for high school, and Social Studies.

           36 Hours at the Intermediate School Level

           48 Hours at the High School Level.
