GOLDEN GIRL
Dobie alum Christa Williams continues
pitching dominance on U.S. Olympic softball team

When Christa Williams has stepped on the pitcher's mound for the U.S. Olympic Softball team, her performances have been as good as gold. However, those who watched her pitch during her years at Dobie High School know her talent is purely natural.

Williams, a 1996 Dobie graduate who guided the Lady Longhorns to two Class 5A state championships, helped the U.S. team to a recent gold-medal performance during the Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Her performance in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Ga. also propelled the U.S. to its first gold medal.

During Williams' freshman, sophomore and junior years at Dobie, she recorded more than 20 wins and no losses and led the Houston-area in strikeouts. She also earned all-American, all-district and first team all-state honors for three years. In 1996, Williams waived her senior year of eligibility at Dobie to join the Olympic team.

Christa Williams fires a pitch in the Class 5A state championship game in 1995 when Dobie High School clinched the title with a 33-0 record. Williams' talents have helped the U.S. Olympic team to two gold medals.
