The 21st Century Community Learning Center Program is a key component of President Bush's No Child Left Behind Act. Southmore Intermediate is one of the few intermediate schools in Harris County to be selected to receive a 21st CCLC federal grant in the 2004-2005 school year. The purpose of this grant is to provide a wide variety of programs designed to enrich the lives of our students and their families. Southmore has implemented a before and after school program that includes fitness, culture, fine arts and academic components. The grant provides our campus with $150,000 a year for three years. Thereafter, the total awarded will decrease to $120,000 in the fourth year and $96,000 for the final year. We are in our third year of implementation, so we are looking at a decrease in funding in the 2007-2008 school year. As we demonstrate the value of our after-school program, we hope to find community contributors to assist us in maintaining our program beyond the funded years. |
