Technology Education Lab
Welcome to the Technology Lab. at Queens Intermediate. This laboratory conducts two full of fun courses, commonly known as Tech. Ed.I, and Tech. Ed.II. These are basic courses to familiarize students with various technologies currently being used by the industry. All of the project work relates to the following four main topics:
- 1. Communications Technology
- 2. Production Technology
- 3. Transportation Technology
- 4. Special Topics
The Teacher. Mr. Zaidi has twenty years of engineering experience. Before becoming a teacher in 1992, He had been the engineering instructor at a Merchant Marine Academy for ten years. He taught elementary school for two years, has taught 8th grade science for four years, and is now teaching industrial technology since last five years.
Parents and Project Sponsors are always welcome to talk or meet the teacher in person at the Lab. or by phone. Mr. Zaidi can be contacted during his conference period from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM on all working days. His Phone number is 713-920-8060-ext 277.
Tech. Ed. I
This is an industrial technology course; this introduces the 7th & 8th graders to the basics of Communications, Production, Transportation, and Biotechnology. This course also re-enforces what the students learn in their core subjects like Math and Science. Some reading and writing must be done for doing any project in the lab. All 7th & 8th grade objectives as specified by T.E.K.S. for Technology Education are covered. Since the students do use computers to write their reports or to design their projects, they do plug into Technology Applications Objectives of being able to use a computer and software. Some of the most popular modules are:
- 1. Mechanical Drafting
- 2. Bridge Design.
- 3. Rocketry.
- 4. Gliders
- 5. Engine Propelled Planes
- 6. Electronic Robots & Solar Energy
TECH. ED.II
This is an industrial technology course; this introduces the 7th & 8th graders to the intermediate level of Communications, and Production. This course also re-enforces what the students learn in their core subjects like Math and Science. Students must have taken Tech. Applications course and their Reading and writing must be at grade level for being accepted in this course. All 7th & 8th grade objectives as specified by T.E.K.S. for Technology Applications are covered. The students use computers for all of their assignments. Some of the popular projects are:
- 1. Digital Photography
- 2. Photo scanning
- 3 . Graphics & Design
- 4. NET Search Projects
Technology Education Laboratory is equipped with 25 student work stations, one Computer Screen Projector with the computer and VCR, one teacher workstation, and a minilab with 8 Power Macs with two scanners, and one digital camera. We are hoping to renew some hardware.
At the core of all of the above projects are Word-Processing, Photo-editing, Graphics Spreadsheets, and introductory Databases.
