Reading title image

Our goal is to help your child have a positive and successful year while becoming a life-long reader.

Reading consists of the following areas:

  1. * Reading and comprehension of novels and short stories
  2. * Vocabulary enrichment
  3. * Daily silent sustained reading

ACCELERATED READER:
The reading program at Queens Intermediate utilizes the Accelerated Reader program. This program gives each child a list of books based on his/her individual reading level. The student is then free to choose any book from the ones listed on his/her reading range. AR Book Lists can be viewed from the website by clicking on the link below. Students are required in most classes to earn a certain number of AR points per 6 weeks. Points are based on the individual student and not set class wide.

* Library books should be with the student at all times. It should be taken to EVERY class EVERY day, and should be read nightly for 30 minutes.

* Tutoring is offered every morning from 7:40 - 8:08 for the purposes of make-up work and reinforcement. (See individual teacher for exceptions or alternative tutoring sessions.)

* Please see that your child has the proper materials necessary for a successful school day. These materials include: wide ruled loose leaf paper, blue or black pen, pencils, and a highlighter.

* Conferences may be scheduled through the counseling office. 713-740-0470
