Necessary Aspects*
Portfolios should be more than just a collection of materials. They should be well thought out and planned with these aspects in mind:

  • Demonstrated Purpose

  • Target Audience

  • Evidentiary Products

  • Reflections

  • Address Standards

Types of Portfolios*

The Purpose and Target Audience of your Portfolio will help you determine the best type of portfolio to build. Generally, there are three basic types:

  • Process (Developed Over Time)

  • Product (Directed Toward Specific Goal)

  • Showcase (Exhibit Best Work)

Stages of Development

The links at the left will guide you through the process of developing your Portfolio. The five stages of development, according to Dr. Helen C. Barrett, are as follows:

  • Define the Portfolio Context & Goals

  • Collect and Select the Artifacts

  • Reflect on Your Work

  • Connect the Artifacts

  • Present Your Portfolio
