Elementary Camp 2002

Students took a look at the world through the eyes of a scientist! This intense camp fostered discovery through exploration and development of a science fair project. Students broadened their understanding of this process through experimentation using scientific methods, researching through the internet, developing technical writing, and working with an artist to create visually stimulating display boards. This fun-filled camp culminated in a mock science fair, where their science projects could have won the top prize! The event was shared with family and friends.

Intermediate Camp 2002

A crime had been committed and students were the hotshot detective assigned to the case! Students investigated a “whodunit” step by step, including role-playing and skill development in writing, research, science, and history.  Students analyzed evidence in a contrived crime scene, engaged in interviews of witnesses and suspects, wrote police reports and news stories, applied for jobs related to the investigative field, and had opportunities to interact with community resources and persons in law enforcement.

This innovative camp provided opportunities for hands-on investigation of real-life problems.

Students’ innate interest in computers and the internet, puzzles, imagination, and problem solving was brought together in a team setting.

NEW!!
 Secondary Summer Exploration Camp 2002

Welcome to the real world! Students explored their learning possibilities in the field of their choice and let their sense of discovery lead them to create something original.  Students broadened their knowledge and understanding by researching their self-selected topic through the internet, available resources, interviewing professionals, and learning how to create a visually stimulating display or performance.  In addition, camp students participated in a field trip to a professional facility depending on the area(s) of research. The camp culminated in presentations shared with professionals, family and friends.

NEW!!  Web Design Camp (gr. 7, 8 & 9 by invitation or application only)

Students became web wizards in a camp designed to teach them the basics and help develop web pages for the district using HTML, JavaScript, Flash, and/or other innovative technologies.  This camp provided students the opportunity to interact with professionals in person and online.  Participation was based on the student’s prior knowledge, experience, and aptitude with computers and web page design.  Campuses and departments requested and submitted information and/or materials for the students’ consideration as a camp project. All pages created were subject to district approval prior to addition to the district web pages. The camp culminated in the presentation and publication of web pages with family, community and friends.
